Trip Introduction

Nestled on the banks of the mighty Rio Sucunduri, the Rio Sucunduri Lodge offers an idyllic escape for passionate anglers for 5 days of fishing and 5 nights. This beautifully-maintained lodge provides the perfect base for your Amazonian fishing adventure.

Imagine waking up each morning in a comfortable double chalet, featuring two single beds and a private en-suite bathroom with a refreshing shower. Stepping out of your room you're greeted by the jungle air and the sounds of the rainforest awakening.

But the true magic lies on the water. The Rio Sucunduri is a fisherman's paradise, teeming with a diverse array of species just waiting to be hooked. Whether you prefer the finesse of fly fishing, the thrill of cating lure, or the tried-and-tested method of bait fishing, the Rio Sucunduri has something for every angler. Experienced guides will lead you to the most productive fishing spots, maximizing your chances of landing a trophy catch.

The Fishing

The Rio Sucunduri and two other tributary rivers explode with jungle bounty – a staggering diversity of fish just waiting to be caught. Here, your expertise with lures and flies will be richly rewarded.

Cast your lure/fly for the explosive strike of the Cichla pinima, the vibrant Yellow Peacock Bass, known for its aerial acrobatics. For a strategic challenge, target the cunning Matrinxã and Jatuarana on smaller lures and flies. Feel the surge of the powerful Bicuda, aka the ‘Cheetah of the Amazon’, a sleek and aggressive fish in the faster water. Target the elusive Sardinata/Apapá, the Golden ‘Poon of the Amazon, a delight on lighter fly and lure tackle.

Looking for a unique trophy? Go after the legendary Arowana, also known as the Monkey Fish, a prized catch with shimmering scales.

But the underwater bounty doesn’t stop there. For an alternative approach, try your hand at bait fishing for the bigger boys. The Rio Sucunduri is home to big Catfish, including the Cachára and Capararí Shovelnosed Surubim. Prepare for a battle against Piraiba, a giant catfish that can reach hundreds of pounds. And for a fiery finish, target the Redtail Catfish and the jet-fueled and beautifully-spotted Lince Catfish.

Arapaima can occasionally show up when least expected. If you see one roll (Arapaimas are air-breathers) cast a lure, fly or cutbait to this leviathan for an unforgetable battle.

With such a remarkable array of aquatic adversaries, the Rio Sucunduri promises an unforgettable fishing adventure.

*We also have kayaks available for use by our anglers.
