Trip Introduction
Forget your average fishing expedition – this is a focused quest, a pursuit of legendary proportions! Our primary target? The colossal Jau Catfish, the undisputed heavyweights of these waters. But the adventure doesn't end there. We'll also be targeting other impressive Catfish species, alongside the hard-fighting Pacu and the ferocious Payara/Vampire Fish, each a prized catch in their own right.
Our base for this adventure trip is the Hotel Punto Verde nestled in the vibrant town of La Macarena, Colombia. From this comfortable haven, we'll embark on daily sorties to the majestic Rio Guayabero. Each day will be a dedicated exploration of this remarkable river, a five-day deep dive into its fish-rich currents. And with six nights spent immersed in this captivating environment, we'll have ample opportunity to uncover the true GIANTS that call the Rio Guayabero home.

The Fishing
The fishing on the Rio Guayabero in Colombia promises an unforgettable angling experience, characterized by:
Abundant and Diverse Fish Species: The Rio Guayabero is renowned for its healthy populations of large and exciting fish. Anglers can expect to target:
- Jau Catfish (Zungaro zungaro): These are the undisputed prize, reaching impressive sizes and offering a significant challenge to even experienced anglers. They are powerful fighters and a true trophy catch.
- Other Catfish Species: Beyond the Jau, the river likely holds other catfish varieties, each with its own unique characteristics and fighting style, including Surubum, Dorado Cats, Piramutaba and much more.
- Pacu (Colossoma macropomum): These large, disc-shaped fish are known for their strong runs and surprising power. They are also a visually distinctive species, making them a desirable target.
- Payara: Often called Vampire Fish due to their prominent fangs, Payara are aggressive predators that provide thrilling action. Their acrobatic leaps and sharp teeth make them a memorable catch.
