The Fishing

Amazon Anglers’ Paradise: A Feast for Fishing Fanatics

The Amazon explodes with predatory fish, a dream come true for any angler. We’ve documented an incredible 47 species you can catch on everything from lures and flies to jigs and cut bait. Get ready for a fight!

Fearsome Fighters:

  • Peacock Bass: These Amazon gladiators, C. cataractae and C. ocellaris, are the undisputed champions. Reaching over 17lbs for the C. cataractae and 8lbs for the C.ocellaris, they’ll attack topwater lures with fury. Imagine the explosive strike of a Peacock launching itself at your lure!

  • Payara & Bicuda: These sleek predators are slash-and-grab specialists. Watch them chase surface lures, minnowbaits, and jigs in faster water, occasionally exploding on the surface in a frenzy.

  • Arowana: aka the Monkey Fish, Arowanas grow to impressive sizes here and love topwater lures and flies.

  • Piranha: For a toothy challenge, tangle with the infamous Piranha, including the giant Red-Eye or Black Piranha reaching over 10lbs.

  • Silver Drum: Jigging off the bottom of a deep hole often results in heavy strikes from these beautiful silver and pewter warriors. They can hit 13lbs and fight like demons.

Beyond the Usual Suspects:

  • Pacu & Co.: For the avid angler, there’s a whole world beyond the usual suspects. Reel in nut, fruit, and berry-eating fish like the Red, Black, and Silver Pacu, along with many smaller scaled species – perfect for Catfish bait!

  • European-Style ‘Coarse Fishing’: For those who enjoy a more leisurely approach, we offer classic European-style “coarse fishing” with sweetcorn, nuts, fruits, and other bait, targeting a variety of fish.

River Monsters Await:

The Amazon harbors true river monsters for those seeking epic battles:

  • Arapaima: These prehistoric-looking giants, reaching over 400lbs and 13 feet long, require special care due to their delicate nature. We use barbless circle hooks and practice careful catch-and-release techniques.

  • Monster Cats: From the dynamite Leopard Cat to the alien-whiskered Flat-Whiskered Cat, the Amazon boasts a variety of catfish offering unforgettable fights. Don’t miss the powerful Surubim, the rocket-powered Redtail Cat, the Sumo-wrestler Jau Cat, and the ultimate prize – the Giant Lau/Piraiba, aka The Freshwater Shark reaching over 400lbs!
